Visit Cape Cod and Learn to Windsurf or Stand-Up Paddle
If a typical day sitting on the beach bores you to tears, but your family just loves it – then take up windsurfing while they sit on the beach. If you’re planning a Cape Cod vacation, it’s so easy to find a beach where you can do both.
Probably the best known place to learn windsurfing on Cape Cod is Old Silver Beach in Falmouth. There you’ll find Cape Cod Windsurfing. Falmouth is located on the south side of the Cape, so the water is warm. At CCW you’ll be able to both rent windsurfing equipment and take windsurfing classes. So if you are an adventurous family you can all learn together!
If you’re an experienced windsurfer and would like to try something new – or something a little quieter, give stand up paddle boards a try.
Yes Cape Cod Windsurfing will teach you how to do this as well. Then you can explore the Cape Coastline without getting your feet burned on the hot sand. If you’ve got a bad back, this might be a lot more comfortable for you than sitting in a kayak or canoe. If you don’t think you’re coordinated enough, don’t worry. These SUP boards are longer and wider than traditional surfboards. Women usually have an easier time than men learning how to SUP because they are generally shorter and have a lower center of gravity.
Combining the two water sports is a fantastic way to include all of the family members in learning something new. One day you can have a high-adventure windsurfing day for the acrobats and daredevils. The next day you can have a more leisurely water sport day. When you’re paddling you get a great view of the birds that call Cape Cod home. You might even see a seal or dolphin swimming along the shore. And yes, I should warn you recently, we’ve had quite a few great white shark sightings. So if you see a seal, well they’re a favorite shark meal, so go the other way.
But in any event have a great time learning a new water sport on your Cape Cod vacation – be it wild or calm!
